Egyptian Hawawshi Pockets
Hawawshi is a popular Egyptian street food, a flavorful spiced ground beef mixture baked inside pita bread. These pockets are perfect for a satisfying and easy lunch.
Let's cook.
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, chopped parsley, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Carefully open each pita bread to create a pocket. Divide the seasoned ground beef mixture into 4 equal portions.
Stuff one portion of the beef mixture evenly into each pita pocket, spreading it out to the edges.
Brush the outside of each stuffed pita pocket with olive oil.
Place the stuffed pita pockets on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the pita is golden brown and crispy, and the beef is cooked through.
Carefully remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Cut each pocket in half or quarters for easier handling.
