Let's cook.
In a large bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 0.75 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon of orange zest until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine.
Heat 3 cups of vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a candy thermometer to ensure accurate temperature.
Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter (about 1 tablespoon each) into the hot oil. Fry the fritters in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Do not overcrowd the pot.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried fritters and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
While the fritters are still warm, prepare the glaze: In a small saucepan, gently heat 0.5 cup of honey and 2 tablespoons of fresh orange juice over low heat until warmed and slightly thinned. Do not boil.
Drizzle the warm honey-orange glaze generously over the fritters before serving.
