Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, allowing the beans to soften further and absorb some water.
While the beans are simmering, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a small skillet over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
Add the ground cumin to the garlic and olive oil mixture, stirring for 30 seconds until aromatic.
Pour the garlic and cumin oil mixture over the fava beans. Stir in the salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mash the beans lightly with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency, leaving some whole for texture.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley. Enjoy with warm pita bread or crusty bread.
