Zesty Lime and Coconut Brazilian Truffles (Beijinhos de Coco e Limão)

Experience the vibrant flavors of Brazil with these irresistible truffles. Known as Beijinhos, these sweet, chewy coconut confections are elevated with a bright, zesty kick of fresh lime, making them an ideal treat for any gathering or a delightful personal indulgence.

✎
HOW TO MAKE IT

Let's cook.

01

Combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, and 1/2 cup shredded coconut in a medium non-stick saucepan.

02

Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly with a silicone spatula, for 8-10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the bottom and sides of the pan.

03

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the fresh lime juice and lime zest until well combined.

04

Transfer the mixture to a shallow dish or plate, spread it out slightly, and let it cool completely at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

05

Once cooled, lightly grease your hands with a tiny bit of butter. Roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.

06

Place the remaining shredded coconut (and granulated sugar, if using) on a separate plate. Roll each truffle in the coconut (and sugar) until fully coated.

07

Arrange the finished truffles in mini paper candy cups, if desired, and serve.

Chef's Tips

For an extra vibrant lime flavor, you can add a tiny drop of green food coloring to the mixture along with the lime juice. Ensure the mixture cools completely before rolling; this makes it much easier to handle and prevents sticking.

Easy Substitutions

If you don't have fresh lime, you can use lemon juice and zest for a similar citrusy flavor. For a different coating, finely chopped pistachios or sprinkles can be used instead of coconut.
