Fragrant Orange Blossom & Date Fritters (North African Style)
Indulge in these exquisite North African-inspired fritters, delicately sweetened and perfumed with aromatic orange blossom water, each bite revealing tender pieces of date. They're an ideal choice for a light, satisfying dessert or a memorable breakfast indulgence.
Let's cook.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and orange blossom water until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine. Gently fold in the chopped dates.
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter (about 1 tablespoon each) into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve warm, optionally dusted with a little powdered sugar or drizzled with honey.
