Rinse the dried figs thoroughly under cold water. If the figs are very hard, you can soak them in warm water for 10 minutes before rinsing.

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed figs, 1.5 cups of water, granulated sugar, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the figs are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid, creating a syrupy consistency.

Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves from the saucepan. Let the figs cool slightly in their syrup.

Divide the warm or room-temperature figs among four small serving bowls. Sprinkle generously with chopped walnuts. Drizzle with rosewater, if desired, just before serving.
