Persian Date and Walnut Halva Toast
This unique breakfast recipe combines the rich flavors of dates and walnuts with a hint of rosewater, spread over warm, crispy toast. It's a delightful and easy way to enjoy a taste of Persian sweetness in the morning.
Let's cook.
Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown and crispy. Set aside.
In a small saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium-low heat.
Add the chopped pitted dates, chopped walnuts, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of rosewater, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cardamom, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
Cook the mixture over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until the dates soften and the mixture forms a thick, spreadable paste. Be careful not to burn it.
Remove the date and walnut halva mixture from the heat and immediately spread it evenly over the toasted sourdough bread slices. Serve warm.
